Hepatitis C screening saves lives

HCV is the most common blood-borne infection in the US and a leading cause of liver failure and liver cancer. But most people who have it do not know they are infected. The good news is that HCV can be cured, often in just three months with daily medication.  Pharmaceutical assistance pathways offer free or reduced-cost medication for patients without insurance coverage.

In this article, Dr. Barbara Turner describes the work that she and the UT Health San Antonio Center for Research to Advance Community Health (ReACH) are conducting to address the HCV epidemic in South Central Texas.
