Bertha Flores

Bertha “Penny” Flores, PhD, RN, WHNP-BC

Dr. Flores is a Hispanic, bilingual/bi-cultural Associate Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA), School of Nursing (SON). She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She earned a PhD in Nursing, Women’s and Gender studies and Geriatric portfolios from the University of Texas at Austin. She received the Outstanding Graduate Award from UT Austin, School of Nursing. In 2018, she obtained a graduate Certificate in Cancer Prevention, from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Her nursing career expands from clinical nursing at the bedside and outpatient care of women, to academic and faculty roles. Dr. Flores served as  Director of the Certificate in Translational Science Program and Master of Science in Clinical Investigation and Translational Science (MSCI-TS) Faculty member. Her passion and commitment in the field of health disparities has identified the importance of cultural literacy, the use of code-switching in health communication, and concepts in technology-based interventions for cancer caregivers. Currently, she is the Site Principal Investigator (PI) on two Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) grants including STOP-HCC-HCV- Expansion to all (PP18009).  She has received numerous awards including the John A. Hartford Foundation Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity (BAGNC) and the KL2 Scholar award supported through a Clinical and Translational Science (CTSA) award. Her experiences have highlighted the importance in how education is fundamental in bridging health disparities among vulnerable populations.


Catherine K. Craven, PhD, MA, MLS, FAMIA

Dr. Catherine K. Craven, PhD, MA, MLS, FAMIA, is a biomedical informatician and consultant who has been a member of and leader in the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA)for more than 20 years. Her research and applied informatics work develops innovations for sustainable clinical and research informatics infrastructure to improve patient care and outcomes. Current foci include clinical/patient data sharing and governance; challenges and opportunities for electronic health record (EHR) collection of social-risk factor data to improve health equity and outcomes; implementing novel privacy-preserving solutions to improve data access and analytics at U.S. Federally Qualified Health Centers for underserved communities; and leveraging artificial-intelligence enabled all-health team large data sets for patient-centered care summarization, communication, and foundational scientific discovery.


Raudel Bobadilla, MPH, CHW-I 

Mr. Bobadilla serves as the Program Manager for the STOP HCC-HCV Program. As a Public Health professional and Community Health Worker Instructor (CHW-I), he has built a strong skill set for engaging and partnering with communities, care providers, and clinics to improve the population’s health. In multiple projects, he has collaborated with community members, leaders, and organizations to connect the public to services and research opportunities. Mr. Bobadilla brings a robust skill set in telementoring program implementation, training the HIV & HCV healthcare workforce, engaging rural clinics, health disparities research, dissemination and implementation science, and community engagement.


Julio Cerroblanco, MBA, CHW

Mr. Cerroblanco serves as a Program Coordinator for the UT Health San Antonio STOP HCC-HCV program. After completing his BS in Biology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Mr. Cerroblanco went on to work with marginalized aging populations of San Antonio to work towards improving quality of care and better understand aging in trauma exposed individuals. Recently, he has work on connecting with care for hepatitis C and training the rural healthcare workforce on HCV. He brings with him a robust skill set on engaging rural clinics, health disparities research, and community engagement.
